Past
Past experiences leave scars, each one giving you the clarity to recognize what you need to feel, what you’re truly looking for. That sense of knowing the terrain, of knowing how to handle yourself, but at the same time, that very awareness holds you back, making you question and set limits.
With each disappointment, with each broken promise, you’ve become a little more cautious, and although part of you wants to dive in without fear, another part simply can’t ignore the signs.
You feel torn between the excitement of giving yourself fully and the wisdom of protecting yourself. The phone becomes the stage for this internal battle: you look at it one last time, hoping for a message, for a few words to convince you to stay. And yet, you also recognize yourself in this moment of doubt, silently cursing that part of you that always wants more, that always hopes for something that may never come.
You take a deep breath, try to listen to your intuition, and with all the calm you can muster, you decide to be honest. Although your words weigh heavy, you know that this honesty is the only way forward.
– “I like you, and these days have been amazing. But I think it’s better to leave it here,” you say, the words resonating as much in the air as in your chest.
– “I can’t allow myself to have my heart broken again. In fact, I’m already sad.”
As you say this, part of you feels free, knowing you’re being true to what you need, though another part mourns the loss of what could have been. It’s in that mixture of courage and sadness that you find a small comfort: knowing that, although it hurts, you’re taking the path you feel is right.
