Who Am I?

– “Now I understand why I spent the whole night crying, my period just started…”

– “Ugh, with PMS, menstruation, ovulation… I don’t even have time to know myself. Who am I?”

I laugh and nod because she’s absolutely right. Sometimes it feels like we’re living in a constant cycle of emotions, with each phase bringing its own version of ourselves, changing mood and perspective like changing clothes. So who am I then? The sweet one? The sarcastic one? The one on the brink of exploding? It’s as if each version takes turns, and instead of offering me clarity, it just plunges me into confusion.

As I go about my tasks, I realize that maybe it’s not about choosing one version, but about accepting that they are all part of me. And although I don’t know if I’ll ever fully understand each of these facets, it’s enough for me to recognize them when they come and greet them with some peace. For now, I settle for anticipating them, identifying their quiet steps, and softening their arrival with a piece of chocolate or a bit of self-care.

It’s funny to think that we’re like a constantly changing puzzle, a multiple version of the same person that sometimes confuses us and other times embraces us. So, when the next wave of emotions comes and makes me question everything, I remind myself that it’s okay not to know exactly who I am in every moment. I embrace that doubt and, at least for now, I allow myself to be all of them at once, without labels or definitive answers.
