Ghost

It appears again, like a shadow that has learned to decipher the exact moment when your happiness finds balance once more. That being that comes and goes, over and over, without truly adding anything constructive to your life, and yet, always knows how to reappear just when its absence stops hurting.

Its walk betrays it: heavy, dragging steps; its gaze, dark and somber, fixed on the ground or into the distance, never meeting your eyes. It always seems on the verge of saying something important, of exploding, but it prefers silence and distance. It hides in isolation as if it were its only way out.

But today, something has changed in you. You no longer need that dramatic, exhausting dynamic, that emotional rollercoaster someone else controls. You’ve grown tired of being surrounded by those who complicate everything, those who, at the slightest setback, give up and get frustrated. Now, you seek to be around people who face life with joy, who aren’t afraid to look problems in the eye, smile at them, greet them, and let them pass when the solution is out of their hands. And maybe, just maybe, that person is already in your life—someone who brings light and peace. Perhaps that’s why this being feels it, senses it, and returns.

“Hi, how are you? I’ve missed you. Sorry for being out of touch for a while… I needed to get myself together. It’s been an intense time, and I withdrew from everything for a bit. But I’d like to see you again, pick up where we left off…”

You smile, not surprised, and reply:

“Haha, you don’t say…”
